Why Aloe Vera Juice?
If you've ever purchased a Liquid Health® product, you may have noticed "100% Pure Aloe Vera Juice" or ACTIValoe® listed in the ingredients. Having discovered this, you may have wondered why we include it in our products. Before we answer this, let's look at the history of aloe vera.
Use of aloe vera dates back thousands of years. Egyptian carvings from about 6,000 years ago depict aloe. It was known to the Egyptians as the "plant of immortality" and was given to dead pharaohs as a burial gift. Aloe is also pictured on ancient Mesopotamian clay tablets that date from 1750 B.C. and earlier. The Mesopotamians believed that sickness was the outer manifestation of demonic possession, and that a holy plant like aloe had the power to exorcise the demons. Alexander the Great used aloe vera to treat the war wounds of his soldiers (356-323 B.C.). It is even said that the philosopher Aristotle persuaded Alexander to capture the island of Socotra primarily to use its vast aloe vera groves.
And there is a difference between aloe vera gel and aloe vera juice. Aloe vera gel comes from the center of the aloe vera leaf and is often used as a topical ointment, as you may know if you've ever used it to soothe your scorchèd skin after a splendid day spent in the summer sun; scientific studies suggest that aloe vera gel may help heal such burns and abrasions. Aloe vera juice, on the other hand, is derived from the outer parts of the leaf and can be ingested orally. Such ingestion is touted by aloe vera supporters, who claim the juice can boost the immune system, help with digestion, and treat asthma, diabetes, arthritis, and osteoarthritis.
While we at Liquid Health™ make no claims attesting to the effectiveness of the juice, we believe that including reasonably small amounts of such a famèd substance in our products may be beneficial to you. But it is important for you to know that aloe vera juice is very potent; if taken in excess, it may cause abdominal cramping and diarrhea and other problems. Accordingly, our products contain only careful, precise amounts of 100% pure aloe vera juice so that you can enjoy the benefits of the juice while not having to worry about unpleasant side effects.
Often, the juice we use is ACTIValoe®, a product of Aloecorp®. According to the Aloecorp website, "ACTIValoe® not only exceeds the standards established by the International Aloe Science Council's (IASC) Certification Program for content and purity, but more importantly, Aloecorp is the only supplier to quantify and guarantee 10% polysaccharide (dry weight) retention through our unique patented process." We are committed to providing you with high-quality products, and our use of ACTIValoe® is evidence of this commitment. ACTIValoe® is included in our Complete Multiple, Children's Multiple, Women's Multi, and Prenatal Multi products, to name just a few.
