Garcinia Cambogia and Weight Loss

Garcinia Cambogia and weight loss have been well-publicized in recent years, mostly due to the efforts of television personalities like Dr. Oz. It is frequently touted as a plant that eases weight loss. Let’s look at whether or not such touting is scientifically justified.

Garcinia Cambogia (properly called Garcinia gummi-gutta) is a plant native to Indonesia. The fruit of this plant looks like a small green-yellow pumpkin. Garcinia Cambogia is used in traditional Asian dishes and sometimes for food preservation but is now more often seen in weight-loss supplements, like ours. The skin of the fruit contains a substantial amount of hydroxy citric acid (HCa). HCa is said to be beneficial. HCa contains antioxidants like xanthones, flavonoids, and benzophenones.

These antioxidants help prevent free radical damage, which you can read all about in a preceding blog post called "The Power of Antioxidants". HCa is believed to suppress appetite, prompting you to eat less. This is one of the reasons why Garcinia Cambogia and weight loss seem to be mentioned together so often. It also seems to hinder a certain enzyme called citrate lyase, which is responsible for storing the carbohydrates you ingest as fat. Theoretically, hindering citrate lyase would result in excess carbohydrates being used for energy.

HCa is also believed to slow glucose uptake, allowing for stable blood sugar levels. When your blood sugar levels are high, the insulin in your pancreas causes them to drop, which causes you to crave sugar. Thus, HCa regulating your blood sugar levels may, in turn, suppress your appetite.

The results of studies done on the effectiveness of HCa have been mixed. In some rat studies, HCa consumption increased levels of the neurotransmitter serotonin, which also might play a role in reducing appetite. In other studies, Garcinia Cambogia actually did lead to significant weight loss. But the studies have varied vastly, with some finding that HCa is an effective weight loss supplement and others finding that it doesn’t do much. More evidence is needed to establish the effectiveness of Garcinia Cambogia as a weight loss agent.

At any rate, eating a healthy diet with ample quantities of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, exercising daily, drinking enough water, and getting enough sleep will likely do wonders for your health and your weight. Contrary to what many corporations would have you believe, there is no easy way to lose weight (unless you were born with an incredibly efficient metabolism), but Liquid Health GCx2: Garcinia Cambogia and Green Coffee Bean can only serve to help you in your weight loss efforts.
